Charna Murray

To celebrate our incredible Nurse Practitioners, we interviewed Charna Murray to learn more about the role of an NP and her experience with Wellness Hubs.

Charna has an impressive career journey spanning over 13 years in the nursing field across various specialties. We are so grateful for Charna's expertise in helping us care for our residents.

How did you become a Nurse Practitioner?

I studied nursing in Townsville North Queensland. I started my nursing career as an Enrolled Nurse and worked for 13 years in various roles, including Australian Red Cross Blood Bank, Community Nursing and Surgical Nursing. I then decided to complete a Bachelor of Nursing. Once I finished my degree, I started working at the Mater Private Hospital in Townsville on the Acute Medical Ward, which is where I developed my passion for chronic disease.

The medical ward admitted every speciality that was not cardiac or surgical, from Oncology, Renal, Haematology, Neurology and Gerontology. My knowledge and skills only grew. I went on to completing a Post Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Management. But I found I wanted to take my career further and decided to complete a Masters of Nurse Practitioners. I am now entering my 4th year as an Endorsed Nurse Practitioner.

What is the best thing about being a Nurse Practitioner?

The best thing about being a Nurse Practitioner is having the ability to build a strong rapport with residents and their families.

What do you love most about supporting the Bupa Wellness Hubs?

The Wellness Hubs allows NPs to work with and build rapport with allied health, nurses, and staff from different Residential Aged Care homes.

What are you passionate about outside of work?

I like to spend time with family and my pets. I enjoy reformer Pilates to clear my head and unwind, as well as the beach and the sunshine.
