Nurse Practitioner Stories
Rojina Maharjan
To celebrate our incredible Nurse Practitioners, we interviewed Rojina Maharjan to learn more about the role of an NP and her experience with Wellness Hubs.
What was your career path to becoming a Nurse Practitioner?
I started my journey as a PCA at Bupa New Farm in 2009. After graduation from TAFE, I started working as an EEN. I received Graduate Nurse Program entry at Bupa Greensborough in 2012 after completing my Bachelor of Nursing. I got the opportunity to advance my career at Bupa Greensborough as an RN in Charge, then Care Coordinator and Clinical Manager.
I received a scholarship from Bupa to support some of my tuition fee to complete my Master of Nursing in Aged Care specialisation, which helped me to get enrolled in my Masters of Nurse Practitioner. I received another scholarship from Bupa to support my tuition fee towards becoming a Nurse Practitioner.
Throughout my post graduate study Bupa Greensborough LT supported me to complete my workplace learning opportunity and the home’s visiting GP became my mentor.
What’s the best thing about being a Nurse Practitioner?
Nurse Practitioner is the most senior and independent clinical nurses in our health care system. An NP has expertise and authority to diagnose and treat people of all ages with a variety of acute or chronic health conditions. An NP can collaborate with other nurses and healthcare professionals including GPs, medical and surgical specialists, physiotherapists, dieticians, occupational therapists, social workers, and many others.
The best thing is that we are bridging the gap between the medical and nursing profession.
What do you love most about supporting the Bupa Wellness Hubs?
I am able to provide quick medical services to residents via telehealth. I have the option to work from home and support multiple homes, at least 3 times a week. I also love the support from the CCM to conduct telehealth.
