Choosing your aged care home
Beginning the search for your care home
Complete an aged care assessment
Firstly, before choosing your new home, you’ll need to undergo an aged care assessment from the Government.
We also suggest you complete a Centrelink income and asset assessment form.
These assessments will confirm your eligibility for entry into residential aged care and help you determine any costs you may need to contribute to your care.
Once you have received both your ACAT(or ACAS if you live in Victoria) assessment letter and your income and asset assessment letter, it is easier for you to start arranging tours of aged care homes to find the right one for you.
To identify care homes in your local area that provide the type of care you feel will best suit your needs, visit the My Aged Care website, speak to your GP, or please call or visit your nearest Bupa Aged Care home.
Taking a tour of your chosen homes
Once you have identified the Bupa homes in your desired area, we recommend getting in touch with us to book a tour.
It is a good idea to visit as many of them as possible as, although homes may offer similar services, they are all unique.
By visiting your local Bupa Aged Care home, you can get to know the team, find out about our approach to your wellbeing and learn how your care is planned in partnership with you.
You can also talk to us about your hobbies, interests and daily routines and how we can help you to continue to pursue them in your new home.
What to consider when choosing the right aged care home for you
When choosing an aged care home, it’s important to select a home that offers you the care and support you need, along with the ability to live the life you choose.
At Bupa, you are at the centre of everything we do for you. Your care is planned in partnership with you and tailored to your needs. We aim to provide all of the services and support that are important to your health and wellbeing in a way that suits you.

What to look for when comparing aged care homes
We’ve produced a handy guide and checklist to help you understand what to look for when taking a tour of care homes. It covers important things to look out for, including how to interpret what you see, hear and feel while on your tour. This will help you choose the right care home for you.
