Opportunities in Aged Care for GPs

Opportunities in Aged Care for General Practitioners

At Bupa Aged Care we’re committed to helping our residents live longer, healthier, happier lives. In doing so we want our residents to have access to the very best care for them.

Bupa is looking for General Practitioners with a passion for aged care and caring for the medical needs of our residents now and into the future. We want GPs who understand the value of relationships and who will provide that continuity of care that really makes a difference to our residents’ quality of life.

Be part of a team that is passionate about delivering Person First Care

In 2013 we introduced a new model of care whereby General Practitioners joined some of our care home teams and commenced working with our dedicated nurses to deliver care to our residents. The Bupa Model of Care is now in all of our homes with a team of clinicians working closely together to meet each resident's needs. More than twenty of our homes include a GP, alongside onsite nurses, personal care assistants and the General Manager. The onsite team is also supported by visiting allied health professionals such as physiotherapists and dieticians.

We want our residents to have access to medical care within our homes with the aim of reducing the need for unnecessary visits to hospital, through the provision of proactive and preventive care, combined with detailed advanced care directives and skilled palliative care.

What to expect

All our homes have a modern consulting room with all the equipment needed to perform examinations and simple procedures. We also support our doctors’ special areas of interest and training needs.

In addition to 1:1 resident care, our GPs also have the opportunity to contribute to providing clinical oversight for our teams. In particular, our doctors may provide leadership and training to enable our nurses to deliver more complex medical care. Our GPs have the satisfaction of knowing they are making a difference and working at the cutting edge of change. This medical upskilling aims to deliver direct benefits to our residents and to increase the desirability of nursing in aged care over time.
