Before you move into an aged care home it's a good idea to visit a few times to become familiar with your new environment. You may wish to visit at different times of the day such as at meal times to get a feel for the place.
Your room will be furnished and decorated for you. You can of course bring along some of your own furnishings, pictures, photos and other personal items. Keep in mind though that some items may not be considered suitable if they are considered to present a risk to the health and safety of other residents and staff.
There are public telephones available for the use of residents but you can usually have a phone connected in your room at your own expense.
Televisions are provided in lounge areas for community viewing and you can bring your own television with you for your room, if you wish.
It's a good idea to meet with the manager on arrival to let them know what sort of support you'll need to adjust. A carer, family member or friend can speak on behalf of the new resident if they aren't comfortable expressing themselves or are experiencing memory loss or confusion.

When you move into one of Bupa's care homes, you won't lose your right to privacy and dignity. Your confidentiality will be respected in all matters.
Additionally, all of our homes have a private area where residents can entertain family, friends and carers.
Health and personal care needs will be discussed in order to develop a tailored care plan.
Our residents can continue to see their own doctor, but we will also be able to arrange a suitable doctor if required as well as providing help with accessing health services.
All Bupa Care homes have orientation programs to help our residents and their family, friends and carers familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.
Bupa Care homes include both low and high level care options.
