Partnerships - Bupa Aged Care

Partnerships

Bupa Aged Care is keen to foster partnerships with organisations that share our commitment to person-centred care.

At a national level Bupa Aged Care is working with Alzheimer’s Australia and the ANZ Wicking Trust to deliver the National Quality Dementia Care Initiative (NQDCI). This $3 million initiative gives people with dementia and their families the opportunity to direct dementia research funding priorities.

At the opening of the Alzheimer’s Australia 14th National Conference in 2011 the first round of NQDCI ‘knowledge translation’ funding was granted to projects judged by consumer advocates to have the greatest potential to improve the lives of people with dementia.

Bupa Aged Care and Alzheimer’s NSW also have a close partnership, working together on numerous dementia awareness/fundraising initiatives including the Sir Michael Parkinson luncheon, The Memory Walk and Bupa Sydney’s Get Dancing concert.

At a local level, our homes work closely with Alzheimer’s Branches, accessing staff training and community support for families of residents with dementia.

College of Nursing

College of Nursing

Bupa Aged Care is an affiliate member of the College of Nursing and offer College membership to all our managers who are Registered Nurses. This membership entitles our nurses to a range of professional benefits including access to professional development courses, professional events, and access to the latest information on clinical issues via the Colleges library and data base search capacity.

Bupa has also partnered with the College of Nursing to deliver the Graduate Nurse Program (GNP).  Commencing in 2010, this initiative is designed to attract recent graduate nurses to the aged care industry. Receiving hands-on clinical exposure at Bupa homes and academic sessions with the College, the graduates rapidly develop their professional skills and confidence. Nurses taking part in the GNP are also offered the opportunity to commence a three-year post graduate certificate in aged care, funded by Bupa.

Bradford University

Bradford University

Bupa Aged Care is partnering with the University of Bradford’s internationally recognised centre for excellence, Bradford Dementia Group, to provide its care home staff with specialist dementia care training.

The training, called ‘Person First, Dementia Second’, is being rolled out to every member of staff working in Bupa’s specialist dementia care homes, from managers and carers, to administrative and domestic staff. The Bradford Dementia Group has developed for Bupa, a range of training approaches including workbooks, accompanying DVDs and a comprehensive cascade training programme which will ultimately be delivered to the 4,000 staff working at Bupa’s care homes across Australia.

Carers Australia

Carers Australia

Core to Bupa Aged Care’s operation is the provision of quality care and an appreciation of what it means to be a care-giver. Recognising the close alignment of our organisations, in 2010 Carers Australia lent its support to Bupa’s Fine Lines project.

The publication features a selection of quotes gathered from BSC residents from around Australia.
