Among our 47 homes we have selected five to take the lead in dementia care.
They are Bupa Dural, Bupa Bateau Bay, Bupa Kempsey, Bupa Bellarine and Bupa Greensborough. These Dementia Health Hubs will lead the way in dementia training and research and act as resource centres for their local communities, providing outreach support, respite care and education about dementia.
Bupa Aged Care has partnered with the University of Bradford’s internationally recognised centre for excellence, Bradford Dementia Group, to provide its care home staff with specialist dementia care training. The training, called ‘Person First, Dementia Second’, is being rolled out to every member of staff working in Bupa’s Dementia Health Hubs, from managers and carers, to administrative and domestic staff.
The Bradford Dementia Group has developed for Bupa, a range of training approaches including workbooks, accompanying DVDs and a comprehensive cascade training programme which will ultimately be delivered to the 4,000 staff working at every Bupa’s care home across Australia.
A culture of care that puts customers at the heart of our business is reinforcing Bupa Aged Care Australia’s reputation as a healthcare partner to our residents and their families.
Listening to our customers, understanding what they value and developing products and services that meet their needs is integral to our health care partnership.
Bupa Aged Care regularly commissions independent research to investigate older Australian’s attitudes to aged care to help shape our service offering.
Retaining independence and individuality, along with keeping an active and social lifestyle and maintaining close family ties are clear priorities for the people we survey. From a financial perspective, older Australians sense of entitlement to the pension, a desire to leave property or money to their children and a preference to pay an accommodation bond to their aged care provider rather than the Government, are also clear messages.
Bupa Care homes include both low and high level care options.
